Govt firm on action against law-breakers

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Government have directed the Director General of Police to ensure that action is taken against anyone who violates the law.
The statement came from Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong as the state witnessed ugly incidents recently as a 31-year-old woman was driving an unauthorized government vehicle besides hindering police to perform their duty.
In addition, a government vehicle was also used for illegal supply of liquor in South West Garo Hills besides a group of people were also detained and release for stating a dharna in the city last week in violation of the curfew.
Tynsong on Wednesday said, “ We have directed DGP to see that action is taken against any violator.” He also said that the government will not tolerate the misuse of government vehicle by anyone.
As far as the detention of eleven people in Nongynsong Umkdait, he said that the they were only picked up by the police and later released with a warning that they must follow the curfew.
