SHILLONG: Hundreds of residents in Laban will finally get LPG cylinders on Saturday thanks to the Police Department.
Laban headman Edward Kharwanlang said more than 400 households in the locality did not receive cylinders in March and April. The Dorbar Shnong informed the police about the plight of these people and the department followed it up.
On Friday, serpentine queues of men and women were seen in the locality despite the rain. Oli Roy, a resident, said she came here to register her name and the cylinder will be delivered the next day.
“I did not get cylinder after March. The Dorbar Shnong announced about distribution of LPG cylinders this morning and so we are all here,” she added.
The cylinders will be delivered at the doorstep and “we have already arranged small vehicles for the purpose”, said a member of the Dorbar.
“The whole initiative is by the Police Department and facilitated by the Dorbar. It is a noble gesture and will be implemented phase-wise,” said Kharwanlang.
Door-to-door
Earlier in the day, due to lockdown and curfew, the Longkmie Gas Agency facilitated door-to-door supply of LPG cylinders to the residents in Rilbong.
