SHILLONG: The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Titosstarwell Chyne, discussed marketing of agricultural produce with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong as the state farmers have been struggling. Chyne said the council has urged the state government to allow only the opening of wholesale market (Iew Dielang) at Khlieh Iew and assured the government that they will maintain protocol and bring in limited and identified traders.
He added that farmers need not bring all their produce, which can be collected from their respective places and transported to Iew Dielang.
The CEM said that the government should extend help in transportation of farmers’ produce from Meghalaya to other states by issuing car passes. The ginger market in Bhoi Lymbong is also close and in this connection, he has requested the government to open up wholesale market. He said that the discussion was fruitful and the deputy chief minister has endorsed the letter to the Chief Secretary, who will in turn examine the suggestions.
