MAWKYRWAT: The Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills District, Isawanda Laloo in consultation with the District Transport Officer (DTO), Mawkyrwat on Tuesday issued the order allowing 25 per cent of public transportation within the district for maxi cabs, tourist taxis and local taxis with immediate effect until further orders.
Through the order, the DC said that passes or public transport permit for fixed number of vehicles will be issue by the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Mawkyrwat to vehicles which is valid only within the District.
“These car passes will be issued to the respective associations (bus, sumo, taxis & tourist taxis associations) and the associations are directed to utilize the pass on a rotation basis amongst themselves,” Laloo said.
The DC also directed that all taxis should maintained social distancing inside the vehicles and the seating capacity for Maruti 800, Alto or any hatchback car is four (driver+3) while for Sumo or Maxi Cab it will be five (driver+4).
“Drivers of these taxis are to charge fares as approved by the DTO. No driver should over charge the passengers and in case of violation necessary action will be taken,” Laloo said, adding that the approved rate of the DTO must be clearly pasted in the vehicle.
The DC also said that all the drivers must wear masks and they are also to permit only passengers wearing mask and they should also maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the vehicle.
While ordering the drivers not to misuse the car pass, Laloo said that the associations are to strictly comply with the directions and also to report to the office if there are any issues and problems.
