SHILLONG: The presence of some migrant workers in East Laban locality has earned the ire of many at a time when the government is making efforts to transport workers from the state.
There are complaints that following the announcement of night curfew, the construction workers have suddenly appeared in several under construction buildings in East Laban.
East Khasi Hills, which was declared a red zone after the spike in corona positive cases, is currently placed in the orange zone and this has prompted the authorities to remove some restrictions.
Since Monday, public had complained that several non-local construction workers have started working in various under construction sites in East Laban.
“From where did these outside labourers come and started their construction work in Laban”, they asked.
The affected narrated noise of heavy construction activities from these buildings round the clock besides the constant talking and shouting by the workers.
The residents of the locality said that they have seen in the local television channels where building owners are asking such labourers to go to their respective places unlike in Laban.
The state government has made it amply clear that construction workers from other states should not engage in construction works after the government has relaxed earlier restrictions in terms of construction activities.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has said movement of migrant workers from here to their respective states will be carried out in two phases starting with Assam and the region followed by others.
Earlier, such workers were allowed to move out in the inter district routes except East Khasi Hills.
