SHILLONG: In a bid to prepare the village and local community fight the coronavirus pandemic, the Community COVID-19 Management Committees were formed in East Garo Hills with the village headmen as the chairmen, village secretaries as the member secretaries, VEC secretaries, MGNREGS, pastors, priests, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, one male and female assistant teachers as members, with the block development officers as sector officers, and the CEO, Williamnagar Municipal Board, as the advisor to the committee.
According to a circular issued in this regard by Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe, the committee will have to ensure that those returning to their respective villages and localities are kept in home quarantine with essential commodities to the quarantined persons and families such as ration, water and medicine being provided.
They will also help in identifying places to be used as community quarantine centres, including contact tracing, among others.
The committee members are to instructed to ensure that all directives of the government are strictly adhered to and all the advisories by the Health and Family Welfare department are strictly followed at the village level, the circular said.
