Animal House at Pasteur caters to researchers in NE

SHILLONG: The animal house in the Pasteur Institute keeps rabbits, mice and guinea pigs while a veterinary doctor is also attached to ensure the upkeep of the animals.
Speaking to an official in the Pasteur Institute, it is learnt that the mice are being sold to educational institutes such as NEHU as well as institutes from Assam and Tripura for research purposes.
The population of the mice multiplies. The number of mice is over 500, the rabbits are about 25-30 and guinea pigs are not below 10.
The rabbits are for some testing requirements while the institute is trying to cut down on the population of guinea pigs.
The mice are sold for Rs 80-100.
