SHILLONG: A local body has written to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma urging him to waive 50 per cent of the house rent citing the situation where a large section of people have been unable to pay rent due to the lockdown.
While lauding the chief minister for the war-footing initiatives taken in containing the pandemic in the state and asserting the provision of government aid such as free ration, DBT, etc., for the people, the Jai Maa Tara Association said that they have been deprived of their source of income and that it has been very difficult for them to pay rent.
“There has been no income for people whatsoever, especially for the small business owners, rendering them in no position to pay rent,” the association said.
