TURA: Citizens of Garo Hills who have been reeling under extreme summer heat conditions and late night load shedding hours has finally received some respite as the state power department has rescheduled the power cut to the early morning hours, beginning Friday night.
The Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited has announced that it has dropped the two hour long late night load shedding timing of 12:30 to 2:30 AM, and moved the power cut towards 4:30 up to 6:30 early morning across all five districts of Garo Hills.
Citizens had been urging the state government to move up the power cut hours as the night temperature continued to remain high causing much difficulty to the public.
Some leaders from the minority community had also petitioned the government to reschedule the power cut timing in view of the ongoing Roza or fasting during the Ramadan religious month which concludes this month.
With the monsoons still weeks away from hitting mainland India, the decision of the government will give some comfort for citizens during this prevailing heat conditions.
