SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills has warned shopkeepers against selling commodities beyond the maximum retail price (MRP), violation of which will entail penalty as per law.
This was conveyed by the DC to the members of Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Khliehriat Circle, who met him to flag the profiteering activities of the wholesalers and retailers.
In a statement issued here, the chairman of Consumer Cell, KSU Khliehriat Circle, Pynshai Kupar Dkhar, said that the president, SS Niangti, and general secretary, Cherity D Suja, of Khliehriat Circle met the DC to highlight the plight of unsuspecting buyers who are made to bear the brunt of unscrupulous traders’ machinations.
Assuring follow up action, the DC said he would direct shopkeepers to display price list in front of their shops.
