SHILLONG: Health Minister AL Hek on Monday announced that the state is currently COVID-19 free, however he asked people to be cautioned of the tough task ahead considering the arrival of stranded residents.
Addressing a gathering at CHC Mawsynram, he congratulated the health department in its fight towards making the state ‘victorious’ over the novel coronavirus.
While urging people to be alert, Hek said, “This is not the end. There is the issue of returnees as they have returned from areas marked as red zones so we will work harder than before. We will not panic. People recover because of self-discipline and following government advisory. We will not make it a panic pandemic. We should not follow the examples of the 400 persons who violated the quarantine period,” Hek said.
The minister also said that the success should not be attributed to the MDA government but to the frontline health workers and the community cooperation.
