SHILLONG: Social Welfare Minister, Kyrmen Shylla, on Thursday said there are 292 villages which require an Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Centre. Replying to the question raised by Umroi Congress MLA George B Lyngdoh on Thursday, Shylla said being a centrally sponsored scheme, the matter pertaining to additional anganwadi centres had been taken up with the Centre and the sanction is awaited.

Meanwhile, Umroi Congress MLA observed that the government is trying to shift the blame for delay on the Centre and was denying 10,500 children to avail the food under the scheme. In reply, the social welfare minister said that they were pursuing this matter with the Centre, adding that formal requests were sent on February 12 and a reminder on March 9 last.
