NONGSTOIN: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Nongstoin Circle apprehended two outsiders from Bihar who were trying to sell fruits illegally in Nongstoin without trading license on Saturday.
The KSU alleged that the two identified as Dip Gupta and Radhe Krishan Sing came to Nongstoin in a pickup truck (ML05T 5831) using a state government car pass valid only for East Khasi Hills.
KSU vice president Wanbhakupar Lyngdoh Nonglait said the offenders also had no other valid document.
‘It was a shock to the union members as they managed to obtain a car pass from the state government to supply fruits illegally in Nongstoin. Moreover, the pass was only valid for East Khasi Hills and not in other district,’ he added.
Seeing the free movement of outsiders in the district, Nonglait said the union blamed the check point at Lyngdoh Masi for not properly checking as per the order of the state government.
“Such illegal movement should be stopped. The police could have thoroughly check inter-state movement which is not allowed as per the order of the state government,” he said while adding that police posted at Lyngdoh Masi in Mairang would have seized the car as the pass is valid only in East Khasi Hills.
He also told said the people of the district have placed their faith in the police but such carelessness will harm the district’s fight in tackling COVID-19.
The union also condemned those misusing car passes of the state government which is meant only for government servants in duty.
