Heavy downpour continues to wreak hovoc in SWKHD

Mawkyrwat: Incessant rainfall in the last four days continues to wreak havoc in different parts of South West Khasi Hills district. Landslides have affected 5 houses in 3 villages while people are also battling rise in water level of rivers and streams close to the danger line. BDO of Mawkyrwat Block, FB Basan on Sunday informed that 2 houses at Mawbidong village, 2 houses at Manad village and 1 house at Lummawbah village were affected due to landslides. Landslide was also reported from Mawkhyrwang village, but no houses were damaged.  “So far, no injury was reported in these incidents,” Basan said.

Mawlai legislator PT Sawkmie provided financial assistance to a resident whose house was damaged during the rain last week. The house collapsed at Mawlai Umjapung when a wall triggered by heavy rain fell on Thursday. No one was hurt. The house at Dong Rumnong, which as on rent, belonged to Wanda Lyngdoh.
