Govt to decentralise MPSC

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) will be decentralised to make it more efficient and transparent.
After inaugurating the newly constructed building of the MPSC at Lower Lachumiere on Tuesday, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that decentralisation and technological interventions will play crucial roles to make MPSC perform better.
After almost 48 years, the MPSC, established on September 22, 1972, will start functioning from its own building.
“Apart from transparency, it is important to conduct exams fast and get results faster and for this, decentralisation and the use technology will be critical”, he said.
According to the chief minister, with the decentralisation of examinations, people would not have to travel far distances. “Modern video conferencing systems can be utilised to conduct interviews. All these interventions can ensure that MPSC performs in a much more efficient manner’, the chief minister said.
He said the creation of an IT cell in the MPSC will not only add to its efficiency but also overhaul and improve the overall experience of the candidates by making the application processes and communications much simpler.
The chief minister said reforms within the MPSC will further enhance its efficiency in conducting exams and timely declaration of results and also in areas of providing more facilities to ease the hardships of aspirants who visit the MPSC office.
He said the new infrastructure will enhance the functioning of the MPSC and benefit job aspirants and the people.

Efforts are also being made to improve the functioning of the MPSC cells that have been created in different district headquarters of Tura, Jowai, Nongstoin, Nongpoh, Williamnagar and Baghmara and also to complete the building of the MPSC office in Tura.
