SHILLONG: Ekta Mahila Samiti, Shillong, has cheered up over 250 needy families on Monday.
The organisation has selected poor people who have faced economic hardships due to the long spell of lockdown.
The members distributed essential items such as rice, chana, oil, potato, nutrela, salt, biscuit, onion, sanitisers, masks and soaps at Mawbah.
Since the early phase of the lockdown, the members of the organisation have taken up the task of creating awareness about the COVID-19 etiquette among the underprivileged in the localities by going door-to-door.
The organisation received feedback from people and they voluntarily offered to support them. Some even offered monetary help. Later the members of the organisation decided to use the fund to buy food grains and other essentials to distribute among the needy who are without ration cards.
Most of the beneficiaries have lost their jobs and are without any sources of income.
