Police seize fake challans meant for coal transport

SHILLONG: Several fake challans meant for illegal transportation coal were recovered by the police in North Garo Hills on Tuesday night.
According to the police, information was received that fake challans were being sold for Rs 70,000 in Dainadubi area and the officer-in charge of the area rushed to spot and arrested two persons identified as Rozab Ali (42) of Karabala, Assam, and Aksad Ali (32) of Jogigopa, Assam.
Police recovered 31 fake P-forms/challans.
On interrogation, they revealed that one Manohar Ali of Goalpara, Assam, had instructed them to sell these fake challans at Dainadubi for Rs 70,000. Both the accused have been arrested but Manohar is absconding though attempt was made to arrest him early morning.
Police said that there appears to be a business rivalry as genuine challans are also being sold at the same rate.
Earlier on Sunday night, one Brill Marak produced a person identified as Crystal G Momin along with a P-form at Dainadubi outpost and lodged a complaint that the P-form in possession of the accused was fake.
During inquiry, it was revealed that the accused received the fake P-forms from two unidentified non-tribal businessmen, and was supposed to sell the same at the rate of Rs 70,000.
