SHILLONG: The MeECL Engineers’ Association will join AIPEF and NCCOEEE in the National Protest Day on June 1 as a mark of protest against the amendment in the electricity legislation, a statement said.
The general secretary of the association, M F Mawlieh, in a statement said that the draft Electricity (Amendment Bill), 2003, not only makes electricity unaffordable to the vast mass of country’s poor section but also takes over states’ power to determine tariffs and subsidies. They are part of a constant attempt to curtail states’ powers, Mawlieh added.
