CM takes stock of COVID situation in Garo Hills

TURA: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday visited South Garo Hills District to take stock of the COVID-19 situation and measures taken to control its spread and also visited a number of quarantine centres in the district where he interacted with the inmates. Sangma was accompanied by Siju-Rongara MLA Rakkam Sangma, Chokpot MLA Lazarus M Sangma and MDC Sengnal N Sangma.
During the meeting the chief minister had discussions on the restarting of economic activities and also took stock of the COVID-19 situation at the international border.
Speaking during his visit, Sangma cautioned the people to be prepared for any situation in the future once the border is opened and the economic activities starts coming in, as the District lies in the extreme international border. He said that people need to adapt to it and the general public need to be sensitised on the matter.
During the meeting he assured that two more Ambulances will be provided to South Garo Hills adding that sufficient funds will be made available to all the Districts in the fight against the COVID-19.  Stating that the Government is prioritising the Health Sectors and their target is to give Ambulances to all the PHC’s and CHC’s throughout the states..
Earlier, DC, HB Marak briefed the Chief Minister and informed that there are 33 numbers of quarantine centers and 23 community quarantine centers in the district where 120 inmates are stationed. He also informed that quarantine centres have been set up in all locks except Rongara.
Sangma also paid a visit to Resubelpara in North Garo Hills on the same day and held a brief review meeting with the officials of the district administration in the presence of Deputy Speaker, Timothy D. Shira, MLAs Rupert Momin and Pongseng Marak and others.
He also visited the Corona Care Centre at ITI Campus at Daram locality of Resubelpara. A few villagers interacted and shared their concerns and were advised to take precautionary steps to protect themselves. Earlier on Sunday, the Chief Minister also visited the Corona Care Centre at Ampati in South West Garo Hills and interacted with officials of the district, after visiting Tikrikilla.
