SHILLONG: Traditional leaders of Mawlai Town Dorbar on Tuesday asserted that there are no cases of suicide arising due to the lockdown in the area.
Earlier, the matter was raised in the Assembly by Mawlai legislator PT Sawkmie, who pointed out that young and poor daily wage labourers had ended their lives due to poverty and their inability to carry on with work during the lockdown.
Mawlai Town Dorbar president SD Khongwir said, “We have no such information about it”.
Other leaders joined him in saying that Mawlai is self-sufficient in terms of food.
