Assam flood scene improves

GUWAHATI: The flood situation in Assam improved on Thursday with the number of affected people in four districts further sliding to 69,586.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin informed that just 160 villages under four revenue circles in Goalpara, Nagaon, Hojai and Cachar – remain impacted by the deluge.

The number of affected people in Goalpara has also drastically come down to just 44,047 in 47 villages of Balijana and Lakhipur revenue circles while 22,507 residents of 31 villages in Hojai still remain affected.

Currently, 2902 persons, including 465 children, are sheltered in 22 relief camps in Goalpara, Hojai and Cachar districts.

There was no casualty reported from any district on Thursday. The death toll in the first wave of floods in the state stands at 10.

Meanwhile, 15 houses were fully damaged and five houses partially damaged in rain-triggered landslides in Longma and Haflong Hill localities under Harangajao revenue circle of Dima Hasao district on Thursday, the ASDMA report said.

At least 20 villagers were affected by the landslides. However, no casualty or injury to any person was reported.
