SHILLONG: The headman and general secretary of Bordup village in Mawsynram along with parents of the students of Dopho Dopgaon Upper Primary School have sought action against one Niranjan Barman, who is teacher of the said school besides being the secretary-cum-vendor of Bordup Village VEC (MGNREGA).
As per the complaint addressed to the East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner on June 9, the complainants, referring to a government notification, said that a teacher cannot function as secretary/president of MGNREGA VEC in the state.
They also expressed concern over the future of the school students as the teacher keeps himself occupied with MGNREGA-related works and often visits the block development office without attending his school for three to four days in a week, causing disruption in studies.
They further alleged that due to the misconduct, a meeting was convened following which Niranjan was asked to resign from one of the two designations he was holding. However, he refused go along with the plea.
The headman and general secretary have also sought prompt action from EKH DC.
