JOWAI: The JHADC is facing acute financial crisis as it failed to pay the salary of its staff for eight months. Not only the staff, but the representatives also did not get the salary.
Though many MDCs in the ruling coalition were against the Executive Committee led by Thombor Shiwat, they are silent on the matter, sources said.
“We have convinced the state government to release the share of royalty collected from major and minor minerals, however, the government failed to respond”, the JHADC chief said when this correspondent interviewed him.
The Executive Member, who is in-charge of the Taxation Department, Wining Garland Sungoh recently convened a meeting with the functionaries of all cement plants and directed them that all their workers must pay professional tax besides other taxes so that the Council can utilise the amount for the staff’ s salary.
Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla has also raised the issue of JHADC financial crisis during the Assembly session but the state government has not responded.
On Thursday, the Jowai MLA held a meeting with the JHADC Executive Committee to find ways and means to resolve the issue.
“The meeting decided to have a joint sitting with all the legislators representing Jaintia Hills constituencies to discuss the matter”, said Shylla
“We have framed a strategic plan to improve the revenue of the Council but the plan has to be discussed thoroughly before it is implemented”, the JHADC chief said.
