Nongpoh: The leaders of four villages in a meeting held on Thursday at Mynnar Jirang condemned the people responsible for spreading misleading information with regard to the rape incident at Nongsier Jirang as appeared in a section of the media.
It may be mentioned here that one, Lurstarwell Rani was arrested following an FIR filed by the victim’s mother on June 16, at Patharkhmah Police Outpost for allegedly raping her disabled daughter.
Joint Dorbar Jirang Nongbah (JDJN), which comprises of leaders of four villages – Mynnar Jirang, Nongsier, Nongthymmai and Smowkoki, while speaking to the media expressed their concern over such ‘misleading news which aims at maligning the image of the MLA.’
“We do not condone any kind of crime, but blaming someone for no fault of theirs is totally unacceptable and we strongly condemned those people involved in spreading this misleading information,” the leaders said while adding that the law should be allowed to take its own course to find the truth and bring justice to the victim. They also clarified that the accused is an illiterate involved in farming activities and has no connection with any MLA as allegedly mentioned in the newspaper, adding that this is some kind of a political game played by few vested interests for their own personal benefits.
Meanwhile, Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun, when contacted, strongly condemned crimes of any kind. “I strongly condemned and do not support any kind of crime, let the law take its own course,” Sohtun said.
