SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has asked the state government not to terminate the services of temporary assistant teachers.
During the hearing of the matter via video conferencing on Friday, the petitioners (teachers) claimed that they have been working on temporary basis as assistant teachers in various government schools. The grievance of the petitioners is that despite the policy of the government, their services are not being regularised and on the contrary, fresh advertisement has been issued for appointment of teachers.
According to the petitioners, they have already reached the age bar and cannot participate in the fresh recruitment process and if this is allowed, then they will lose their services. The petitioners also relied upon an earlier decision of the apex court.
The counsel for the government sought some time to take instruction and file affidavit in reply, if time granted.
“Till returnable date, the respondents shall not terminate the services of the petitioners”, the court ruled.
The matter will come up for hearing on June 29.
