SHILLONG: The court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate on Monday turned down a plea for bail for the NEIGRIHMs doctor arrested on charges of molestation of two patients last week at the central institute’s OPD. The doctor will remain in judicial custody for 14 days.
Police sources said that during the hearing, the Court observed that the Investigation Officer had adhered to the Provisions of Section 41 (a) of CrPC by furnishing a check list mentioning the grounds which necessitate the arrest and detention in the case.
Earlier, the legal counsel for the arrested doctor had accused the state police of violating the mandate laid down by the Supreme Court by arresting the accused without first issuing a notice.
Meanwhile, member of the State Assembly’s Women’s Empowerment Committee, HM Shangpliang on Monday said the Committee would allow police to carry on with its investigation and later seek a report from East Khasi Hills Police into the case. Terming the alleged molestation of a woman in NEIGRIHMS by a senior doctor as unfortunate, he urged police to take the case to its logical end.
On the recent alleged rape and murder of a woman in Rambrai area, he said that the police should seriously look into the matter and book the culprits involved in the heinous crime. He also said that Committee would seek a report from West Khasi Hills Police as well in the incident.
