SHILLONG: Opposition and ruling MLAs have always been seen casting aspersions on each other but in a sight-to-behold instance, Congress MLA from Mawsynram, HM Shangpliang, on Monday expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, for giving the go-ahead for the construction of ringwells along the Indo-Bangla border under his constituency.
The MLA also submitted a letter to the chief minister, thanking him for the project as the latter had made a commitment on the floor of the House for the project.
Later, Shangpliang said the people living along the border do not have drinking water facilities, adding that the PHE department was requested by him in the first Assembly session in 2018 to provide drinking water to the villages along the international border.
“The people living here are dependent on muddy waters from the ponds. This sanction will definitely provide them safe and good drinking water all along the border villages,” Shangpliang said.
