Mentoring for youths

SHILLONG: The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, in collaboration with Facebook, launched a digitally-enabled mentorship programme called GOAL (Going Online as Leaders) for mentoring tribal youths in the country.
The core areas of this programme are digital literacy, life skills, leadership and entrepreneurship.
The programme aims to mentor 5,000 youths from tribal communities with the help of 2,500 mentors, comprising leaders from industry, arts, politics, business et al. The selected mentees will be given a smartphone with internet access for one year and study material in digital format.
The programme will run for 9 months where weekly sessions will be conducted for first 7 months followed by internship opportunity for two months.
