JOWAI: The Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills, has sought a week’s time to resolve the issue of transportation charges for cement and clinker from cement companies in the district.
The DC held a meeting in this regard on Thursday with the JAC comprising All Jaintia Cement and Clinker Transporters Association (AJCCTA), Jaintia Hills Truck Owners Association (JHTOA) and the Meghalaya Truckers Union.
The objective of the meeting was to resolve the imbroglio over transportation charges for cement and clinker from cement plants in East Jaintia Hills to various parts of the state as well as outside.
The government in its notification dated January 13 had increased the transportation charge. However, cement companies in the district have not complied with the order stating that the rate was very high.
The JAC has demanded that all cement plants should follow the order and increase the transportation charges for both cement and clinker.
It said it stood by its demand and also demanded that the DC should stick to the government notification and directive should be served on all cement plants to follow.
However, the deputy commissioner has sought a week’s time to decide on the issue.
