JOWAI: The Joint Action Committee of transporters and truck owners’ associations on Saturday decided to temporarily suspend the strike against transportation of all products of East Jaintia cement plants.
The decision to put on hold the agitation against cement companies in the Jaintia Hills came after the government assured that it will take the matter seriously and the chief minister will look into it.
It was informed that the chief minister will be holding a meeting with the JAC members — All Jaintia Cement and Clinker Transporters Association (AJCCTA), Jaintia Hills Truck Owners Association (JHTOA) and Meghalaya Truckers Union (MTU) together with Transport Minister, Sniawbhalang Dhar and the leaders of the All Jaintia Cement Manufacturer Association on June 25.
The transporters’ association asked the government to be firm with its notification for the welfare of all truck owners and transporters, failing which they will resort to agitation and will not allow cement companies to operate in Jaintia Hills.
It may be mentioned that the cement plants in East Jaintia Hills under the banner of the All Jaintia Hills Cement Manufacturer’s Association (AJHCMA) failed to follow the government’s order to implement the revised rate for transportation including passengers and goods carriers.
