MAWKYRWAT: Mystery shrouds the death of 26-year-old Assam Regimental Centre personnel Skhemborlang Lyngkhoi at his residence in Nongbah Marshilong village, South West Khasi Hills District, on June 19.
Skhemborlang was on leave at the time of his death. He was laid to rest on Monday.
Skhemborlang was the brother of Sepoy ARC Kitborlang Lyngkhoi, who had died in an avalanche at Siachen Glacier in Kashmir in 2012.
According to relatives, Skhemborlang was healthy and had recently recovered from injuries he had suffered in an accident on Khanapara-Byrnihat road on March 19. “He was healthy and every day he would help the family members
with their chores. He had no problems and at around 12.30 am, he had spoken to his mother. However, when he did not get up till 8.30 am, his sister went to wake him up, only to find he had passed away,” a cousin brother, Synshar Lyngkhoi, informed.
He also said that Skhemborlang, who was posted in Arunachal Pradesh, was transferred to Shillong and while on his way he met with the accident and fractured his hand, following which he was admitted in the Military Hospital, Khanapara.
Meanwhile, District Surveillance Officer of South West Khasi Hills District Dr W Narry informed that after he was discharged from Military Hospital, Khanapara, he had gone to Civil Hospital, Shillong, and underwent COVID-19 test, following which he was sent for home quarantine in Mawlai.
The test reports, however, turned out to be negative. He then came back to his village and completed home quarantine on April 27, during which he showed no symptoms of COVID-19.
However, because of his untimely death, the doctors have conducted the post-mortem and are now waiting for the reports.
“We cannot say anything about the cause of death until we get the reports,” Dr Narry said.
