SHILLONG: Congress MLA Charles Pyngrope has demanded an independent inquiry into the purchase of rice in the open market during the COVID-19 crisis.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Tuesday, he said that the government lifted rice from FCI Guwahati at the rate of Rs 22.50 per kg and the maximum rate should have been Rs 24.50 per kg including transportation charges.
“Instead of selling the rice at the maximum rate of Rs 24.50 per kg, the rice was sold at Rs 30 per kg. The government should have subsidised the rate”, the MLA pointed out, while adding that an independent inquiry is needed to shed light on the facts.
