MAWKYRWAT: Amid the rise in the number of detection of illegal entry of outsiders, a local body has suggested that the state government should include social organisations and NGOs as members of the COVID team to check the illegal entry of outsiders besides government officials.
This (suggestion) was left for the consideration of South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo by the Synjuk ki Seng Samla Shnong, South West Khasi Hills Unit, during their meeting on several issues related to the fight against COVID-19 on Tuesday.
The Synjuk said that the government should form an ‘infiltration cell’ with transparent functioning and NGOs as well as government officials as its constituents to thwart illegal entry of outsiders.
Maintaining that workers have been allowed to enter the district earlier, the Synjuk informed the DC that it is ready to play its role in curbing illegal entry of outsiders who can pose a threat to the district amid the prevailing scenario.
The Synjuk, in a memorandum to the DC, asked the government to relieve field staff, senior officers and Grade IV, who are COVID-19 volunteers, and in their place appoint government and deficit teachers, who have taken a major hit due to the prolonged closure of educational institutions, as official volunteers and assisting officers.
Meanwhile, with regard to the market scenario, the Synjuk supported the idea of opening the Mawkyrwat Market between 6 am and 5 pm during summer while 6 am and 4 pm during winter, besides the cleaning of the market for an hour after the shutting down of shops.
It suggested that banners in market areas along with restrictions and penalty for violations of protocols should be put up.
The Synjuk said that the DC agreed to most of its pointers and hoped that the district will prevent any likelihood of the COVID-19 infection.
