In a first, Ri Khasi anthem reverberates in KHADC

SHILLONG: Scripting a new chapter of upholding Khasi culture, for the first time in the history of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), the Khasi Anthem “Ri Khasi” was sung by the members on the first day of the Budget session of the Council.
The Chairman of the Council entered the Hall and made an announcement to have the Khasi Anthem sung, though the technical glitch in playing the song lasted for few moments. The song was sung for about 40 seconds.
It may be recalled that last year during the oath taking ceremony of the newly elected MDCs, former MLA and currently an MDC from UDP Paul Lyngdoh mooted the idea of singing the Khasi anthem at the start and end of the session.
The former president of KSU had said that singing the Khasi anthem would inspire the MDCs and work hard towards ensuring the protection of the unique identity of the Khasis.
MDC PN Syiem, who then was elected Chairman of KHADC, had echoed the sentiments of Lyngdoh who said that singing the Khasi Anthem would make the atmosphere more solemn and inspire the love for the Khasi community.
