SHILLONG: The CEM KHADC, Titoswell Chyne, has said that the status of Kulsi Dam project is under examination by the committee constituted by the state government for the purpose.
A national project of the Brahmaputra Board, it is in the disputed border between Kamrup district of Assam and Meghalaya in the West Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi district.
Replying to a supplementary question, the CEM on Wednesday said that joint inspection of the project was held in 2019 but there was no information to the traditional heads about it.
He said that he would write to the committee to include local representatives of the state as demanded by Congress MDC Bajop Pyngrope.
Stating that the local Khasi name of Kulsi is Wah Khri, Pyngrope said that allowing the project will affect the sovereignty of the state and it will have an impact on the ecological balance and the catchment area.
He alleged that officials of the project are lobbying for it and had also offered him money for his support.
To this, the CEM KHADC said that he would meet the Water Resources minister over the matter and will later decide whether to oppose the project. Chyne said the project falls in the disputed area.
