SHILLONG: A solution to the long-pending issue of Harijan Colony still seems distant even as the government keeps a rigid stand to relocate the colony from Iew Them Mawlong.
The High level Committee (HLC), which was set up for the relocation of the Harijan Colony residents, is waiting for the report of the sub-committee, following the receipt of which, the HLC will immediately take further action.
Informing this, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who is heading the HLC, on Thursday, said that the matter is not simple.
“The Harijan Colony issue is not simple, especially the land in dispute. I am confident that the report of the sub-committee would guide the HLC on how to move forward to find a permanent solution to this long-pending issue,” the deputy chief minister, Tynsong, said.
Asked if the HLC will set any deadline to complete the task assigned by the government, Tynsong said that it is difficult to say when the committee will submit its report.
Earlier in 2018, violent protests took place at Motphran which led to the demand for relocating the Harijan Colony from Them Iew Mawlong.
However, the Harijan Panchayat Committee has been opposing the relocation.
