TURA: Police have arrested a Nokma and another man on charges of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in Salmanpara area of South West Garo Hills. The victim is said to be differently-abled.
Though the victim was assaulted on more than one occasion earlier, the family learnt of the incident only last week following which they filed a police complaint against the girl’s brother-in-law and the Nokma.
Police arrested the duo under the POCSO Act.
The Nokma, who also happens to be a teacher, was identified as Jamesbright Sangma.
“During investigation the victim revealed that she was also sexually assaulted by her brother-in-law. We have registered two separate cases and both have been arrested,” informed district police chief, Rituraj Ravi.
