Fake ID
WR Kharkrang, Executive Magistrate, East Khasi Hills, lodged a complaint that on June 24, during routine registration of passengers coming to the district at Transport Cell of Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills at JN Complex, Polo, one Akash Sharma of Happy Valley produced a fake identity card bearing ‘Government of Meghalaya Office of the Gaoborah, East Khasi Hills’.
Smugglers caught
On June 25 around 12.30 am, two vehicles ML-05H-1588 and ML-05E-4968 evaded a police check point and fled towards Dawki, West Jaintia Hills. The vehicles were later intercepted at Pynursla Infiltration Office, East Khasi Hills. During search, one of the vehicles (ML-05E-4968) was found carrying nine cattle meant to be smuggled into Bangladesh. The cattle have been handed over to veterinary authorities.
BSF personnel on duty apprehended two smugglers Suboth Marak (34) and Sanja Sangma (37), both from Gramkhol village in South Garo Hills while they were smuggling a Chinese-made power tiller at the Indo-Bangladesh border.
Woman assaulted, robbed
Riwanlang Shangpliang lodged a complaint that on June 20 around 11.30 am, five women — Clever Shangpliang, Dorin Shangpliang, Bian Nongbet, Merinda Nongbet and Sheba Nongbet came to her shop at Dongrum, Mawsynram in East Khasi Hills and assaulted her. The complainant also said clothing materials in addition to Rs 63,240 were stolen from her shop.
Fraud
Sumit Kumar Singh of 120 Bn CRPF, Dakopgre, Tura (WGH) lodged a complaint that on May 18, he received a phone call from Pankaj Kumar Bhadauria who claimed to be an employee of Mahindra Financial Jaypur. He asked the complainant to pay Rs 38,000 towards the processing fee for a loan of Rs 5 lakh. Later, the complainant remitted the amount as instructed, but never received the loan.
