NONGSTOIN: Heavy rainfall in the past few days has hit parts of West Khasi Hills district resulting in flash flood and minor landslide in the district on Saturday. No casualties have been reported.
Heavy rainfall which began on Wednesday caused traffic jam over Nongstoin and Mawkyrwat road where a flash flood restricted movement of vehicles on Saturday in Mawthungkper village which connects West and South West Khasi Hills district.
Sources said the flash flood occurred around 7 am on Saturday. Around 5 pm, the flood waters receded which resulted in movement of vehicle.
It was also reported that in the early hours of Saturday, some shops located near the Nondein and Nonbah River banks in Nongstoin were flooded while some houses were also affected by the flood. Residents staying near the river banks were relocated.
The District Disaster Management Authority has urged the public to be alert.
