NONGSTOIN: With COVID-19 cases surging in Assam by the day, it is pertinent that Meghalaya is put on high alert to prevent the likely outbreak of the disease in the state.
In view of this, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Mawshynrut Circle, on Tuesday, urged West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner T Lyngwa to suspend trade between the two states in border areas.
Pointing out at the 14-day lockdown in Assam which is under way, the union said that traders from both the states should ensure that there is no interstate movement, especially in Malangkona, Athiabari and Nongshram.
The Meghalaya government, meanwhile, has imposed lockdown in areas under Byrnihat till Khanapara.
The union, in a meeting with the DC, asked him to deploy more manpower at check points bordering Assam under Mawshynrut Civil Sub-Division.
Meanwhile, the KSU has sought the DC’s intervention into the matter related to the release of pending scheme under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) citing complaints from people about benefits to only those beneficiaries with Aadhar card.
Lyngwa assured the union that their demand for more manpower in check points will be taken up as top priority. With regard to PMAY scheme issues, the DC said that an inquiry will be initiated to solve the matter.
