SHILLONG: Opposition Chief Whip and Congress legislator, PT Sawkmie has petitioned Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to take urgent action against violators of COVID-19 protocols by filing FIRs.
In a letter addressed to the chief minister on Wednesday, Sawkmie said that as per media reports, many people have violated the protocols.
“There is a need to arrest the protocol violators and implement the Meghalaya Epidemic Disease COVID-19 Regulation 2020 by imposing Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (45 of 1860) against those who committed the offence”, he said.
Sawkmie said there are many people who violated the protocols laid down by the Health department by skipping the COVID-19 tests while others have violated the quarantine norms.
He also urged the chief minister to take up with the Centre not to transfer the central government staff from other parts of the country to Meghalaya.
