TURA: Parents of Tura Public School students on Friday met Tura MP, Agatha Sangma and submitted a memorandum urging her to look into the various needs of the school as well as the up-gradation of its infrastructure.

The parents while demanding the appointment of a full fledged Principal in the school also sought the introduction of 10+2 Science Stream) for the benefit of the local students. Pointing out that even after 38 years of the school’s establishment in 1981, the school continues to function without the higher secondary level, the parents requested that Science stream is introduced immediately so that local students do not have to go outside for higher studies.

With regard to building infrastructure, the parents while pointing out that there was very limited space urged that the same is upgraded so that classes can be divided into two sections to enhance the intake capacity of students. They also sought the appointment of more qualified teachers to make way for its up-gradation to a 10+2 level in the near future.

The parents in the memorandum also demanded the construction of a playground, boundary wall, water storage tank and to divert the PWD main road from NH-51 to Tura Polytechnic which bypasses the school to ease the inconvenience faced by students.

In addition, reminding that the current Covid-19 situation has greatly impacted the students’ physical and mental health, the parents re-iterated the need for introducing 10+2 in the school and urged that urgent steps are taken for the same so that the school’s outgoing class 10 students do not have to seek elsewhere to pursue higher studies.
