SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has asked the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department to submit a report on the delay in completing the abattoir at Jowai in West Jaintia Hills district within two weeks.
Chairman of the Committee, Charles Pyngrope, said that an amount of Rs 7.6 crore was sanctioned for the project coming up at Jowai but it is a taking a long time.
“We have asked the department to give us a report on the time frame and the operation of the project and they will revert to us within two weeks,” Pyngrope told reporters after a meeting held with the officials of the department on Friday.
The abattoir, being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 7.60 crore, is also known as Bi Species Modern Abattoir. The project has been delayed for long.
The PAC in 2015 had conducted a site inspection and found several anomalies as far as execution of the project was concerned.
The Committee had also expressed surprise to see that the project was yet to take off.
