NONGSTOIN: Federation of Khasi Jaintia & Garo People (FKJGP), Aradonga unit, on Monday said that officials deployed at the check point bordering Assam do not know how to operate thermal scanners, which is used to detect the temperature of people.
FKJGP president, Trelling Shira, said this at a press conference at Nongstoin after they carried out an inspection at the check point of Meghalaya-Assam border located in Aradonga in West Khasi Hills.
With the COVID-19 cases spreading to Boko and Hahim of Assam, the FKJGP said that the people of Athiabari, which is the gateway to the neighbouring state, have been concerned.
“After talking to the officials in-charge at the check point, they said that they have no experience on how to handle the thermal scanner because they have no knowledge about the machine,” Shira said.
The FKJGP has also expressed concern over state government sending untrained warriors, adding that the move poses threat, not only to the officials deployed but also to the villagers of Athiabari and other border villages in West Khasi Hills.
The FKJGP has demanded the state government to send trained health workers who know how to handle the thermal scanners.
Shira also urged the District Administration and the West Khasi Hills Police to deploy forces and health workers in Rangsapara, since there is no checkpoint in the area.
