SHILLONG: There will be intense Southwest Monsoon rainfall spell over the state during the next five days.
According to official weather forecast, the Monsoon trough at mean sea level lies to south of its normal position. It is very likely to shift northwards towards the foothills of Himalayas from July 9.
“High convergence of south-westerly/southerly winds from Bay of Bengal at lower Tropospheric levels very likely over North East and East India from July 9”, the report said.
Isolated heavy to very heavy rain fall is very likely over Meghalaya from Monday to Friday.
Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy fall (20 cm) is also likely over Meghalaya on July 9 and 10, the forecast read.
The South West Khasi Hills deputy commissioner has issued an advisory, warning citizens to remain alert in view of the IMD weather forecast.
