GUWAHATI: Meghalaya Police have registered a case (No17(07) 2020) at Cyber Police Station under relevant sections on Indian Penal Code and Disaster Management Act on the basis of a FIR filed by the Publisher of The Shillong Times, according to a communique issued by Meghalaya Police on Wednesday.

The Publisher of the premier English Daily of Meghalaya has accused that some unidentified persons have circulated a fake Facebook post wilfully distorting the Daily’s social media post regarding a Press statement on Government of Meghalaya’s move to re-impose lockdown in the state.

Meghalaya Police have called upon the general public to refrain from sharing or circulating fake news on social media.
