Ri Bhoi District Cricket Association gets new office building, practice net

NONGPOH: Members of the Ri Bhoi District Cricket Association (RBDCA) and Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) also visited the newly constructed nets practice ground of the RBDCA at Mawroh and also inspected the proposed Cricket ground at Nongkhrah on Thursday.
Later in the day, Jirang MLA, Sosthenes Sohtun also inaugurated the new office building of the Ri Bhoi District Cricket Association (RBDCA) located at Umbuda village.
The inaugural programme here was also attended by the Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) leaders, village leaders of Umbuda beside the office bearers of RBDCA.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Sohtun lauded the RBDCA under the leadership of its President, Rayonald Kharkamni for their tireless efforts in promoting the game of cricket in District, being the popular sports in the country beside football.
Sohtun also reminded that during the earlier days, particularly during the nineties, cricket was not as popular as it is today in this region and that football was the only sport being played and known by all.
During those days, Sohtun said that sports was only an activity for fun and fitness, but nowadays sports is one of the most lucrative business especially Cricket.
Therefore, Sohtun urged the young boys and girls to come forward and fully utilize their talents and make use of the infrastructures and coaching available for their own benefit. Sohtun also expresses optimism that with the current leadership of the Association at the District and the State, there is no doubt that the untapped talented young boys and girls are nurtured and guided to their full extent so that one day they shall represent the Country as well.
Others who also spoke on the occasion include MCA General Secretary, Gideon Kharkongor, Umbuda headman, CB Syiem whereas the function was presided by the President of RBDCA, Rayonald Kharkamni.
During the day, seven Cricket players including two girls who are players from the RBDCA were also felicitated for having represented the state in various categories of the game.
