House damaged, Laban in darkness for second night

SHILLONG: A falling tree from Circuit House, Laban has damaged a house below. The tree also brought down the electric wires resulting in the area plunging into darkness.
The house owner said that the incident happened on Friday around 8.45 pm damaging a portion of the Assam type building “We had apprised the authorities in the past to cut down the trees at Circuit House which were posing dangers but in vain,” the house owner said.
Though the police reached the place in time, the disaster management team is yet to assess the damage.
After the tree had damaged the electric poles and telephone lines, the MeECL workers were engaged in repair works. However, the work was disrupted in the evening hours on Saturday due to incessant rain.
