Heavy rain wreaks havoc in WKH, SGH

SHILLONG/NONGSTOIN: Incessant rainfall in the last 24 hours has wreaked havoc in West Khasi Hills and South Garo Hills.
There are reports of landslide and flash flood in 16 villages under Nongstoin, and Mawthadraishan C&RD Blocks due to heavy rain since Saturday.
South Garo Hills also witnessed heavy rainfall on Sunday.
Heavy rain triggered a massive landslide near TB Hospital, Nongstoin, in West Khasi Hills on Sunday.
However, no casualty was reported.
Other landslides in the district were also reported.
The Nongstoin-Shillong road at Umjei was also blocked due to landslide.
People of the area said that landslide near TB Hospital is an alarm bell to other localities especially Nongstoin police station which is prone to landslide.
The debris and the mud were cleared later.
A few houses were also damaged in the rain. According to an official report, the total crop area affected is 50 ha till Sunday. The infrastructural damage includes a footbridge and wooden bridge, roads, an ICDS building and Kynshi Mawria LP School.
