MAWKYRWAT: Mawkyr-wat MLA, Renikton L Tongkhar on Saturday inspected the roads that have been cut off and damaged due to incessant rain in the past few days.
The MLA visited Mawkyrwat-Marshillong and the Jashiar-Nongshillong roads.
He informed that the government has taken the matter seriously and the roads are expected to be restored within two days.
When I was coming back from Shillong, I saw several minor landslips from Weiloi to Mawkyrwat and this year it seems there is more damage to roads due to incessant rain. “ Tongkhar said.
The legislator had coordinated with the Executive Engineer PWD (Roads), Mawkyrwat Division who immediately started the repairing work on Saturday.
“We understand that there will be a huge expenditure because the roads in Mawkyrwat area have been damaged in many places, but as a public representative I will talk to the government to release funds for the urgent work whether through the Disaster Management Fund or through the PWD (Roads),” he said.
Meanwhile, sources on Sunday informed that two houses at Lummawbah, Mawkyrwat Block were affected due to landslide.
